Bard PowerPort Claims Involving Blood Clots, Infection & More
Bard Access Systems Inc. manufactures a medical device called the PowerPort, which is designed to embed in a patient’s body. The device allows for rapid or convenient administration of intravenous medication, such as chemotherapy. However, patients are reporting that PowerPort devices can move from their original site, become damaged, or make it impossible for medication to get to the patient.
PowerPort devices are linked to:
- Serious infections
- Deep vein thrombosis
- Embolisms—including life-threatening blood clots
If you developed clots or infections after receiving the Bard PowerPort, contact our PowerPort lawyers as soon as possible. We offer completely free consultations.
What Are PowerPort Patients Filing Claims Over?
When companies manufacture anything—especially medical devices—they’re legally responsible for mitigating avoidable risks from using the device. Even after a device has hit the market, companies need to improve their products if a defect in the current design reveals itself. They also need to notify patients and doctors of the risks inherent to using the device with clear, specific warnings in their marketing material.
Claims against the PowerPort manufacturer allege that the company failed to do either.
While current Bard PowerPort claims are unrelated to any recalls, Bard became the subject of multiple PowerPort recalls in 2020 in the U.S. and 2019 in Australia. While the facts of those recalls may not be relevant legally to the current lawsuits, it’s clear that Bard ought to have been more careful about producing more PowerPort devices since then.
